Croft Race Report from Aiden Moffat

The weekend’s BTCC racing was at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire and on the Saturday the first practice session went very well for the Laser Tools Racing team. Aiden posted good times, building on the pace he found at Silverstone to finish the session 9th with a 1.22.857.

However for the all-important qualifying session in the afternoon, it had started raining heavily and all the cars were struggling to get grip. The result was that Aiden went off, causing a red flag (session stopped to recover the car). The red flag meant that Aiden’s best time was taken off him (he had been in 11th place), so that left him starting Race 1 on the Sunday in 15th.

Aiden commented: “What could have been… The car had great pace on Saturday but I threw it away in qualy, first time driving in these very wet conditions in a rear-wheel-drive car.

“Race 1, I finished mid-field in 16th finding Croft a challenging track to overtake! Continued with the really strong pace in Race 2 and I was happy to bring the Infiniti home in a very tidy 11th place ahead of the reverse grid. As it was, the reverse grid wasn’t kind to me and I started Race 3 in 11th.

“Race 3 became a race-long battle with Senna Procter and Rory Butcher and I eventually split the pair to come home in 10th. Happy to come away with more points just a shame I never made the most of the pace I had in the car, but another track I’ve never been to in RWD until this season so all part of our building year!”
